Our construction project is currently on schedule and coming along smoothly. Here are some highlights:
Eastgate Branch
The Board of Library trustees approved closing the Eastgate Branch for one week in April in order to complete a significant amount of construction in a shorter period of time there. After that week, construction will continue and some areas may still remain unavailable, but we are expecting to install at least half of the new carpet and complete most of the painting during that time. The exact dates of closing are still to be determined; however, we will give patrons plenty of notice regarding any possible reduced hours.
Harnish Main
Upper Level
The genealogy area, study rooms, and quiet reading room are built and painted. We predict that our visitors will enjoy the view of beautiful sunsets from the quiet reading room. The drop ceiling and carpet will be installed in mid-January. We are on schedule to move parts of the adult non-fiction collection into the new space at the end of February.
Lower Level
The creation center, study rooms, reading nooks, and homework center are all built and painted. You may have already seen some green paint - color: Parakeet - on the wall behind the fish tank. This painting was completed in order to allow our fish tank maintenance person to move the tank away from the wall and back into place while there are fewer fish in the tank. The drop ceiling should be installed in late January, and carpet will follow soon after that. We plan to move most of the picture book collection and some of the play area pieces into the large meeting room in February.
Harnish Main will close for two days in February (Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23) to accommodate the moving of furniture and collections into different areas and/or into storage, new spaces will open up and current spaces will be closed off. Thank you for your patience as we worked out the kinks with connecting heat in the new areas to the existing building. There were a few cold mornings as the system got adjusted, but everything seems to be running well now.
Thank you for your patience during construction!
