The end of Phase I is in sight! The temporary wall in Adult Services came down on Monday, February 5. The new Adult Services area is not open for business yet; a shelving unit combined with cones and caution tape will be in place so that non-construction personnel do not enter the area. Our patrons are welcome to walk to the caution tape to take a peek, but no one can enter the space (even our staff has to wait!). The temporary wall in Youth Services will remain in place as long as possible in order to keep our youngest patrons safe.
With the removal of the walls, carpet installation will continue into the new spaces of the existing building that are currently behind plastic.
Carpet, flooring, and tile has been installed in almost all of the new spaces. The walls are VERY colorful! Once the furniture is moved in, all spaces will get a final coat of paint. As of Monday, February 5, most of the cabinets and counters have been installed.
On February 22 and 23, the Harnish Main Library will be closed to patrons for construction-related activities, such as moving the adult non-fiction shelves from their current location into the new space. The Youth Services picture book bins will be relocated to the Meeting Room to make way for the expansion of the Program Room and the construction of an all-new Play Area.
Thank you for your patience during construction and your enthusiasm for our new spaces!
