Wages: Starts at $26.68-$28.68/hour ($52,026-$55,926 year) - depending on qualifications and experience

Description

The Algonquin Area Public Library’s Eastgate Branch is completing a major renovation and will reopen to the public on January 6, 2025. This renovation has increased the public space to both floors, with a children’s department downstairs which includes a play area, new patio, and new meeting and learning spaces. The transformed space upstairs will hold the adult and young adult collections, along with providing spaces that will enhance our patrons’ reading, learning, and community experiences. The updated facilities are designed to foster collaboration and creativity, making the Eastgate Branch a hub for community gathering and engagement. We seek a friendly, energetic, and engaging person to join our Eastgate Branch team to provide services in this dynamic new space.

We seek a friendly, enthusiastic, tech-savvy librarian with a desire to connect patrons with trusted sources of information for school, work or personal enrichment. With the goal of fostering creative exploration and information literacy, the Eastgate Branch Adult Services Librarian will serve on a team of librarians and library associates providing the community with reference, readers advisory and computer assistance, as well as help in using digital collections and devices.

Responsibilities

Special areas of responsibility include assessing and anticipating community needs to manage collections in physical and digital formats; actively evaluating the age, condition, and circulation of titles within assigned selection areas; planning and presenting adult programming events; and serving in a rotation as a Person in Charge.

This position requires a desire and ability to serve the public with friendliness, tact, and diplomacy; experience with curating library collections; ability to plan and present programming for adults; solid knowledge of personal computers, the Internet, books, music, movies, and games; willingness and ability to learn emerging technologies and job related skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and excellent customer service skills.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from ALA-Accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in a library position is a plus
  • Physical agility and strength to unload and load materials from bins and carts
