Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement: The Algonquin Area Public Library District is committed to providing diverse and inclusive services, resources, and collections that meet the needs and interests of current and potential library users regardless of: age, cultural background, disability, ethnicity, family status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, health, socioeconomic status, and veteran status. The Algonquin Area Public Library District has a history of welcoming all, and we will do our part to:
• Bridge the digital divide
• Assess our materials and work to build diverse, inclusive collections that appeal to and satisfy the
needs of current and potential library users
• Regularly evaluate our library programs to ensure we are meeting our current and potential users’
needs and interests
• Listen to and engage with our diverse communities and library patrons
• Encourage participation of members representing the makeup of our district on our governing Board of
Trustees
• Use employment practices that concentrate on recruiting qualified candidates to build a diverse and
inclusive workplace, so that our library staff represents the communities we are committed to serving
• Provide opportunities for professional development for all staff on topics of equity, diversity, and
inclusion
• Create multilingual marketing materials across a variety of media in an effort to reach current and
potential library users
• Recognize patterns of inequality and commit to providing access to educational materials and
programming that address social justice and are relevant to the backgrounds, experiences, and
cultures of current and potential library users
