On December 4, the American Library Association announced the 10 winners of the 2018 I Love My Librarian Award–and named AAPLD’s own Lindsey Tomsu as a recipient. Teens from her previous library in Nebraska and teens at AAPLD completed the application with enthusiasm and praise. It’s clear to see that she is well loved by teens in two states!
According to the Dec. 4 ALA press release, “2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the I Love My Librarian Award, which honors librarians who go above and beyond traditional library service. This coveted award was established in 2008 and recognizes outstanding public service that has transformed lives through education and lifelong learning. The ALA has received thousands of nominations over the decade, but only 110 librarians have received this distinguished honor.” Read the entire press release here.
The teens themselves say it best:
I remember what Lindsey said to us during the first TAB meeting—we could make the library anything we wanted it to be. That’s empowering. – Haley, Student
Lindsey has created knowledgeable lectures, interesting readings, and engaging assignments for me. She has so much positive energy and shares real-life stories to help me connect with the material. She has made a difference in my life and I’ve only known her for a month! I’ve never been so excited to come to the library before. – Maddy, Intern
In the short time she has been with us she has already implemented changes for the better. For example, we only had a few programs each month for teens and they were all repeats. While she isn’t quite able to do as many programs as she’d like right now, she has added more fun options for us, especially crafts and DIY projects. – AAPLD students
